Myron in Quarantine

I have really missed writing and reflecting here. Quarantine and the resulting lack of childcare has made it tough to get anything done these days.
As a family, we have processed this phenomenon in waves. Being solid introverts, we somewhat enjoyed the quiet and not having to rush to get Myron to daycare and ourselves to an office for the first week or two. Then coordinating our ever-shifting work schedules and trying to find a time to get anything done between Em’s meetings and my meetings and chasing Myron around got exhausting. I used to find it really irritating to have a day half-full of meetings because I could only really have an hour or two immersed in a project when I could make any progress on it. Now only being tied up for half a day sounds like such a luxury. We set up our office to also serve as a playroom, and Myron has been getting better at entertaining himself for maybe 10 minutes at a time. I think it’s a little tricky with us being in the same room – when he sees us, he wants to be with us, helping us type on our keyboards and joining our work video calls.
On the plus side, we are very lucky to still have our jobs and our health and the ability to connect with friends and family via video chat. And of course the other positive here is that we have gotten to spend a lot of time with Myron during the day, and we have gotten to see him work on some significant milestones.
This is one of the first times he stood up in his crib. He was so proud.

Watching cats, dogs, people, and cars on the street has become a fun pastime.

He has mastered crawling, and he takes steps while holding our hands or furniture! He’s getting better at balancing.

He knows what a lot of things are for, kind of. The smallest of these cylindrical blocks look like lip balm to him, so he puts them on his lips.

He’s really interested in the toilet and tries to flush it – he hasn’t successfully done this yet.

I gave Em a photo album for Mother’s Day, and he sometimes kisses the cover photo. I thought he was kissing himself, but Em thought he was kissing the whale on his shirt, as he does with his stuffed animals, which makes more sense. {CAPTION}

He has also been grabbing our hands and manipulating them to do things like play patty cake or push buttons in a book. {CAPTION}

Or ring a doorbell on this toy house that our neighbors gave him! {CAPTION}

We went on a hike today and saw a coyote, two deer, a turtle, a turkey, and various birds. {CAPTION}

Oh, and he demands to go on bike rides every time he sees the garage. He kind of knows the baby sign language for bicycle, which when he makes it, looks exactly like the sign for washing hands.
