Heidi and Lauren’s Visit!

The month of August has been wonderfully busy for us with visitors! First my childhood friend Emily G, and then my college friend Heidi have come to help me and Mike explore Boston like true tourists. Heidi also brought her friend Lauren, who was absolutely fantastic.

Meet Heidi!

We started out the weekend with a trolley tour. I believe when Heidi boarded the trolley the conductor asked if she always wears pearls….like a good Salem woman she said “Of Course!”. He then asked her where she was from.

After the trolley tour, we headed back to our lovely neighborhood of Jamaica Plain for a tour of the Sam Adams Brewery. Lauren was very excited to learn about the proper way to taste beer (one step involves sticking one’s tongue in the glass)….and the free samples!

That night we went on a walking ghost tour of downtown Boston. Heidi happens to be an expert in Ghost Tours and even gives/narrates Ghost Tours in Alexandria, VA where she lives. We had a great time and our tour guide was very knowledgeable, it was kind of like going on a walking tour with your high school history teacher. Heidi was not quite impressed because he didn’t dress up in period costume. She did, however, see other tour guides in period costumes the next day.

On Sunday, we headed over to Cambridge and the Harvard Natural History Museum. They have a really amazing collection of flower studies made completely out of glass from the late 1800’s. We also saw many skeletons, insects, and fossils. It was pretty awesome!

After some more wandering around Boston, we found ourselves in dive bar (like really really dive) on Charles Street (which is a very fancy street of antique stores and boutiques). There we proceeded to refresh ourselves and unwind a bit.

Showing off my skillz...I totally broke 100 points! best out of the lot.

Mike and Heidi showing off their dance moves....well ok, maybe just Heidi, but imagine Mike's feet moving.

It was a great visit! And after Heidi, Lauren, and Emily G., we are beginning to feel as though we can give really great tours of the city (hint – you should come visit)!

Thanks, guys! It was mega fun for us too. That dive bar was just the right thing after a weekend of wearing ourselves out being tourists.
