Good day, loyal readers. I have taken it upon myself to write this latest blog post due to the increasingly busy lives of Emily and Mike, or as you know them: Em and M. For those of you who don’t know me, I am Kepler Rodriguez, or ‘the cat’. I adopted Emily about six years ago when she came to live with me and my two roommates, Caroline and Tycho. I have since dropped those last two and have decided to keep Emily, and she in turn has decided to keep Mike. I suppose you can say he has grown on me. As a human, he is one of the quieter ones, which I appreciate.
I would like to take this moment to say thank you to Jessica Robinson, who is the only human reading this blog to inquire about my well being. Well, Jessica, and anyone else who cares – I have been better. This is not the first time I have had my life picked up (literally) and moved across state lines and into new buildings with strange smells, obnoxious sounds and weird lighting. And this is not the first time in my life this has happened during sweltering heat. I am a very well-traveled cat. I have seen the Gorges of Ithica, NY, heard the honking cars of College Park, MD., and now – now I have smelled the molasses of Boston Baked Beans. Big whoop.
I tell you all of this because, nothing – NOTHING – compares to Providence, Rhode Island. It is my home. The smell of the salt air at low tide that fills every corner of every back street, the open apartments with beautiful architectural details and light, the fine dining at a fraction of the cost here in Boston, and the plethora of cat sitters who I know and love (although Mike’s cousin, Chris in Boston was all right – don’t get me wrong). Every time my life is moved away from Providence, I return. Emily should have known this when she decided to join Mike in Boston. Inevitably, I return to Providence. And so dear readers of ‘Em and M in Beantown’…I am here to let you know that as of December 1st – I am taking Emily and Mike back to Providence. Yes, that’s right, I think the two of them have had their fun. Now its time for me to get settled back in the city I was made to live in.
Unbeknownst to them, I made sure Mike could find a job, I have a few insider cats at (add)ventures, who owed me a favor…if you know what I mean (I told you Providence was my kind of town). I knew Emily could find her way, and she is excited to be settling into a new job at a charter school. I also secretly posted the listing for the best apartment on Craigslist (complete with a cat door to a porch) and made sure it had all the amenities that would make Mike happy (such as a loud white box that he likes to put plates into), and the location to make Emily happy.
So while they have been running around concerned about getting their lives together – I have sat back and watched all my planning take shape. The last thing to do was write this blog post, and I could wait no longer for them to come around to it.
So there you go. I don’t know what they will do with this blog in the future, but one thing is for sure. This despicable name will have to be changed. That brings me to a question I have for you, loyal readers. What shall be the new name of this blog? My choice: “Kepler in the Creative Capital”…
See you in Providence.
Kep
Kepler – Providence is really excited to have you back (and em and m)!
Oh Kep! I knew you were plotting something when I saw you last month. That’s my girl! Way to show Em and M who’s in charge!
So Kepler, does this mean that the winner of the comments contest still gets to visit in Providence?
Hey, as long as I’m in Providence, I bet I can pull some strings, if you know what I mean.
Well Kep you have done an outstanding job. PTown is my favorite place to visit. As for a name for your blog how about: Living off Hope. Love, Grandmom
Nice. More Providence inside jokes. Friendship is a one-way street, or so I am told from some alley cats I know.
Dear Kepler: Your post reminds me of stories I have read before. As for a blog rename, how about Kepler’s Paw Took It?
Paw Took it – I like it. References my behind-the-scenes paw that is pulling the strings. AND a clever play on Pawtucket.
Kepler,
It was great to hear from you. You are an extremely talented writer. It’s a good thing that your attendants, Emily and Mike, take after your creativity. I do have one suggestion for you. I hate to be critical, but although you claim to be a “well traveled” cat, you have not visited North Carolina–specifically Beaufort, which is was voted one of America’s Best Small Towns by Coastal Living Magazine. I think you might find that its charms rival those of Providence. My cat, Mr. Darcy, would be honored to show you around town if you can get Em and M to come here next.
