Myron is 2!

Okay, he has been 2 for a while, but here’s a look back at Myron’s second birthday and Easter festivities. We got to spend some time with Nene and Dziadziu for this one, which was a welcome break from only being able to see them over video chat, and they made a lot of the magic happen. There were no cereal baths for this one, but Myron had somewhat of a concept of what was happening, and I am pretty sure he enjoyed himself. Em did a bunch of preparation – reading a book that has a baby’s first birthday party scene at the end, and telling him he was going to get to hear people sing to him, eat cake and blow out a candle soon at his birthday.

Here’s the scene of him walking in to see the banners and balloon set up at the dining table (you may need to click through to the post to see the video). We were a little concerned that he might be overwhelmed, but he was just whelmed enough.

He delicately sampled the icing on his homemade cake, one finger lick at a time.

Uncle Matt helped me build this Myron-sized chair. I found it on the side of the road once but then realized it was missing a leg after I picked it up. So we rebuilt the front two legs using a fallen tree branch. It was quite tricky to get square sides on something like this – not sure I’d do it again. And then the whole seat turned out to be cheaply constructed using particle board and glued over the paint, so it was falling apart. I rebuilt the seat as well, so now it is a Frankenstein’s kid chair. Myron sat on it a couple of times and got up quickly and then started standing on it. He figured out that standing on it is not allowed after a few tries.

We spent the early part of the day playing on this indoor jungle gym from Abuela Sue. Myron tried real hard to help set it up, and he knew what to do with it right away.

Also, Nene and Dziadziu and Em set up an Easter egg hunt and prepared an Easter lunch while I distracted Myron. The Easter eggs had toy cars inside them. A couple were Easter eggs that contained other Easter eggs that then contained a chocolate bunny wrapped in foil that made it just look like a bunny toy. So we let Myron get down to the foil, but Em and I ate the chocolate when he wasn’t looking. I didn’t really April Fool’s prank Myron, so maybe this was kind of in that spirit. Once he found a car or two, he mostly just wanted to play with the cars.

Myron sported this knit bunny vest, made by Em’s babci for either Em or Pete – she can’t remember. Note the bunny tails on the back.Myron running in bunny vest Myron sleeping in bunny vest
